The Hoyes Michalos 3 Step Fresh Start Program

You deserve a fresh start! While you may have completed or are completing your bankruptcy or proposal with us, you can use our 3 Step Fresh Start Recovery Program to get a fresh start.

1. Learn to manage your money

Now that you are dealing with your debt, it’s time to manage your money.

2. Build your wealth

Once your debt is gone, you want to start building your wealth.

Start by building an emergency fund and reserve accounts.  Then, once your proposal or bankruptcy is completed, save and invest for the future:

  • start a TFSA
  • if you have children, start an RESP
  • if you or your children have a disability, consider starting an RDSP
  • if you want to save for your retirement, contribute to an RRSP

3. Rebuild your credit

If you plan to borrow in the future (or even rent an apartment, get car insurance, or get a cellphone), there are steps you can take to rebuild your credit.

Understanding Credit Reporting

We have also provided a sample Equifax credit report and sample Transunion credit report to help you when you read your own credit report.

Four Steps to Rebuilding Credit

  1. Get a free copy of your credit report
  2. Correct errors on your credit report.
  3. Establish a new and better credit history.
  4. Keep your new accounts in good standing.
