Source: Annual Statistical Report, Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy Canada, an agency of Industry Canada, available at the Superintendent of Bankruptcy web site. The numbers above are compiled as follows: Bankruptcies reflect summary administration bankruptcies only; Proposals include consumer proposals only. The Superintendent of Bankruptcy statistics also include proposals filed under Division 1 by individuals; since the Superintendent of Bankruptcy does not make these detailed statistics available by city, we exclude Division 1 proposals filed by consumers in our analysis. The differences between the two methods of calculation are not material.
