Not only are Canadians bringing debt into marriage, they are reluctant to discuss debt and spending with their partner. In fact:
- 1 in 3 did not discuss their debts prior to getting married;
- 20% are ashamed to talk about debt with family and friends;
- 15% do not discuss their spending habits with their spouse or partner.
It turns out communication is an important tool for paying down debt as well. Those who do not talk about their debts are more likely to find their debts increased after marriage.
